Francis Thomas (Bud) & Cecily Stack

A few words about our friend Bud Stack

Bud and Cecily Stack moved to their Isle of Palms home in 1992 and immediately got involved in community service. They joined the Exchange Club and soon became a major part of the Oyster Roast held annually to raise money for scholarships for children East of the Cooper.

Throughout the years, Bud and Cecily became an integral part of this event and shaped the process that has made it an unbelievable success. Bud always carried a stack of tickets in his pocket from November until the end of January and anyone that was in his immediate proximity, and even beyond, got asked “How many tickets do you want?” This of course led to him selling more than a quarter of all tickets for the roast. Most people who owned a business on the Islands or Mount Pleasant got to know Bud very well. Once a year, F.T. would visit and hand the proprietor a letter without saying another word and when asked what was the letter about he would respond in a very confident way “It’s a Thank You for the donation that you will give us for the Oyster Roast.”

Francis Thomas (Bud) Stack passed away on February 28th, 2015 only a few weeks away from his 90th birthday, but his legacy will continue to live on. From his patriotism, to the care he had for all those around him, to his terrific sense a humor, Bud left a wonderful memory in all of our hearts.

Bud and Cecily moved here from New Jersey where they also helped with the Tomato Breakfast Fundraiser for their Long Beach Island Yacht Club. F.T. was member of the Coast Guard and defended our freedom in World War II as a pilot in the Navy Air Corps. In his professional life he was a high school math teacher and then later owned the F.T. Stack Agency. Cecily was instrumental in the first Long Beach Island condo development and after the project was completed she continued her career in real estate.

Please join us in celebrating Bud’s tremendous contribution to our community by raising a glass to him and cracking into a briny oyster!
